He has been at the top for years, was once world number 1 and won a Grand Slam title, when he won the US Open in 2021. This time, the Russian is preparing to play in the Laver Cup, a competition that pits European tennis players against players from the rest of the world.
In this tournament, which does not award points for the ATP ranking, Daniil Medvedev will share a team with great players, including Carlos Alcaraz. The Russian gave him an interview and highlighted that the Murcian is the toughest rival he has faced in his career. It is worth remembering that Medvedev also knew how to play against Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
What did Medvedev say about Alcaraz?
“He is probably the toughest opponent I have ever faced in my career. “I’m going to try to raise my level next time I play Carlos, try to do something new, something better,” said the Russian. It should be noted that, in head-to-head matches, Alcaraz won five times and Medvedev did so twice.
Daniil on the Laver Cup
“I would say the most important role is to score points, but if we talk about personalities I hope to be able to bring some calm and serenity to the team. “We all want to win. When we are all there, we are six players who want to beat the other six players no matter who is on the other side of the net,” said Daniil Medeved.
He added: “That’s what makes this event even more fun and more competitive because it’s something that doesn’t happen all year round. It’s the only time during the year when we support each other, go out to dinner together or spend time together.”.
