Resting last week and before a return to the PGA Tour in the 6th of the very lucrative Signature Event of the season in North Carolina, Matthieu Pavon will have the pleasant surprise of waking up on Monday with his best world ranking.
He has been knocking on the doors of the top 20 since his 12th place at the Augusta Masters in mid-April, it is now a done deal, Matthew Pavon joined the very closed world elite this Monday.
The Bordeaux player, who saw his points average decrease since he was not playing this week, took advantage of the clear drop in points Jordan Spieth.
The Texan, prematurely eliminated from the CJ Cup Byron Nelson on Friday, has in fact lost more than a tenth of a point and leaves the top 20.
This has not happened to the former world number 1 (25 weeks between 2015 and 2016) since mid-July 2021!
This is the only change at the top of the ranking and Matthieu Pavon will try this week to move the lines again by getting closer to 15th place (best ranking ever reached by a Frenchman) currently occupied by Hideki Matsuyama with a lead of 5/10th over the tricolor.
