The world of judo saw action on multiple fronts this weekend, with the Porec Millennium Team Cadet European Cup in Croatia and the Japanese Ambassador’s Cup national judo tournament in Kenya taking center stage. Competition was fierce in both events, showcasing the talent and dedication of judokas from around the globe.

European Judo Talent Converges in Croatia

From February 28th to March 1st, 2026, Porec, Croatia, hosted the Porec Millennium Team Cadet European Cup. The event drew a significant international presence, with 29 countries and 721 judoka participating. The competition featured both men’s and women’s divisions, with weight classes ranging from -50kg to +90kg for men and -40kg to +70kg for women.

The event was structured with preliminaries and final blocks scheduled over two days. Day 1 focused on the -50kg, -55kg, -60kg, -66kg (men) and -40kg, -44kg, -48kg, -52kg (women) weight classes. Day 2 featured the -73kg, -81kg, -90kg, +90kg (men) and -57kg, -63kg, -70kg, +70kg (women) categories.

Prisons Crowned Champions in Kenya

In Kenya, the Prisons team emerged as the overall champions of the 2026 Japanese Ambassador’s Cup national judo tournament, held on Saturday at Kasarani Gymnasium. The tournament also saw early success for Nairobi in the National Intermediate Boxing Championships, with the team winning their opening matches.

Beyond judo, other sports saw notable results. Zetech University Sparks secured a 51-50 overtime victory against Strathmore University Swords in the Kenya Basketball Federation Women’s Premier League. Gor Mahia extended their lead in the SportPesa Premier League with a 2-1 win over Mathare United. Kenya also received positive news regarding its anti-doping efforts, being officially removed from the World Anti-Doping Agency watchlist after implementing comprehensive reforms.
