Spurs Ink Mason Plumlee to Guaranteed Contract After 10-Day Deal

The San Antonio Spurs have solidified their frontcourt, signing veteran center Mason Plumlee to a contract for the remainder of the season. The move comes after Plumlee successfully completed a 10-day contract with the team.

Filling a Void

Plumlee’s signing fills the roster spot vacated by forward Jeremy Sochan. The Spurs are looking to bolster their depth, particularly with an eye toward the postseason.

Impressing Without Playing

Remarkably, Plumlee earned the contract extension without seeing any game action. The Spurs front office was reportedly impressed by his experience, work ethic, and defensive capabilities.

“He’s been a smart veteran player on a few different teams,” said coach Mitch Johnson. “He gives us some stability defensively, good screener, high IQ connector on offense, and just additional depth.”

Frontcourt Depth

The Spurs now boast five centers on their roster: Victor Wembanyama, Luke Kornet, Kelly Olynyk, Bismack Biyombo, and Plumlee. This provides coach Johnson with options for various matchups and potential injury replacements.

Recent Transactions

Plumlee’s journey to San Antonio involved a trade from the Charlotte Hornets to the Oklahoma City Thunder, followed by a waiver. He then signed with the Spurs two weeks ago on a 10-day contract.
