Mariners Add Late-Career Resurgent Outfielder Rob Refsnyder to Roster

Mariners Sign an Ex-Blue Jays Outfielder Having Late Career Resurgence

Just when you thought the Seattle Mariners had exhausted their list of former Toronto Blue Jays, they go and sign another one – veteran outfielder Rob Refsnyder. Refsnyder inked a one-year, $6.25 million deal with incentives with the Mariners on Monday, as announced by MLB on Twitter.

Despite joining a crowded outfield in Seattle, Refsnyder’s late career resurgence lends Seattle an appealing depth option, particularly against left-handed pitching.

In his most recent season in 2025 with the Boston Red Sox, Refsnyder batted .269 with an .838 OPS, 29 runs scored, 9 HR, and 30 RBIs across 70 games primarily in a reserve role.

Remarkably, Refsnyder’s success isn’t new – it’s just been awhile since he found it in a Blue Jay uniform. In 2017, Refsnyder played 32 games for Toronto, batting .196 with a .496 OPS. He was eventually claimed off waivers by the Cleveland Guardians after the season.

However, since joining the Red Sox in 2022, Refsnyder has become a revelation, accumulating a bWAR of 3.6 and a plus .800 OPS since turning 30. Over four years with Boston, he’s hit .276 with an .804 OPS, 117 runs, 48 doubles, 27 HR, and 119 RBIs in 809 at-bats across 309 games.

More significantly, Refsnyder has emerged as a lefties masher. With a career .281/.356/.549 slash line, 22 HR, and 95 RBIs in 668 at-bats against southpaws, Refsnyder is no ordinary platoon player. According to MLB.com, he has ranked in the top five against lefties in batting average, on-base percentage, and wRC+ since 2022.
