Vugar Talibov, from Azerbaijan (43rd in the world ranking) will be the rival of Mariano Coto (62nd), in the Fuegian’s first fight, for Group A of the Judo Grand Slam in Paris (France), in the category of -90 kilos.
BIG RIVER.- In the ranking heading to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Fuegian athlete appears in the 50th order, with 688 points, ten places below his contender next Sunday (who has 1,012 units). He, however, has no certain hope of reaching the top event, since his compatriot Murad Fatiyev appears in 10th place, with 2,730 points, and in this discipline there is only one place available per country.
In total, there will be nine Argentines who will step onto the tatami of the Accor Arena, in Bercy, between today and Sunday, seeking to add experience and points for the respective rankings.
Among them will be Sofía Fiora, at -52 kilos, the only Argentine judoka who will go to the French capital, by virtue of the continental quota. Keisy Perafán, the best placed in the world ranking (41st in -48 kilos); and Brisa Gómez, the only one from the delegation of the Argentine Judo Confederation (CAJ) who won a fight last week, at the Portuguese Grand Prix, in Odivelas.
And Coto and some of his companions were at the International Training Camp in that Portuguese city, an activity that they will repeat – from Monday the 5th to Wednesday the 7th – in the French capital.
