A 28-year-old from Togo was blocked this morning on the border between Italy and Switzerland on charges of having killed yesterday afternoon in stabbings in the center of Bergamo Mamadi Tunkarasecurity officer at a Carrefour. This would be a homeless man who, according to what emerges from the investigations, was trying to escape to Switzerland.
The man was handed over by the Swiss police to the Italian police after a check on his identity. The 28 year old is from Chiasso he was then accompanied by the Italian police to the police station in Bergamo. Leaving the Committee for public order and security in the Prefecture, the deputy prosecutor Maria Cristina Rota specified that this is the “suspect” of yesterday’s crime, but that at the moment “he was not arrested by either the prosecutor or the judicial policebecause at present there are no elements to subject him to arrest”.
The murder
Yesterday afternoon Mamadi Tunkara was stabbed to death in Bergamo, in the central Via Tiraboschi. The victim was 36 years old, born in Gambia and lived in Verdello. By profession he was responsible for the private security of a Carrefour supermarket. That’s where he was heading on his bicycle when his killer pushed him, hitting him to death after knocking him to the ground.

The escape
The murderer quickly disappeared, running away towards Via Moroni. The searches were immediately activated, until the discovery this morning. Investigators are still working to reconstruct the dynamics that led to Tunkara’s death. It’s difficult to think of a random crime: the two men probably knew each other, or in any case had already met, and may have had an argument previously.
The discovery
A knifewhich could be compatible with the one used Mamadi Tunkara, it was found this morning inside a courtyard in via Pagliaa few hundred meters from the crime scene and along the escape route that the killer would have taken to get away. The Scientific Police intervened on site to carry out investigations and seize the weapon.
