Kathi Rüd’s Casa Kavi: A Haven for Self-Discovery in Madrid’s Chamberí
Kathi Rüd’s Journey to Casa Kavi
Life takes you to many places, but the body has its own rhythm, its own needs, its own course. You have to learn to listen to it, to recognize it and to live in it.
Kathi Rüd, a German-born athlete and executive, has traveled the world, from Argentina to the United States and London. Yet she chose Chamberí, Madrid, as the home for her unique yoga and movement space, Casa Kavi.
From Abandoned Chinese Bazaar to Casa Kavi
The curious thing about Casa Kavi is its birthplace: Inside the mythical Chinese bazaar struggling on the street of Alburquerque, number 14, with 236 square meters waiting to be transformed into a space for self-discovery.
“I wanted Alburquerque number 15, but the meters didn’t give us. Six months later, I ended up in Alburquerque 14, where I thought it wasn’t going to be ours because they had rejected the offer,” Rüd explains.
Transformed by Zinc Architects
By the hand of Zinc Architects, Kathi Rüd has transformed a lifeless room into a space that offers self-knowledge and exploration tools through movement, yoga, dance, song, and breathing.
Personalized Plans for Each Client
Casa Kavi creates personalized plans for each client, focusing on self-care rather than just exercise. They offer various types of yoga, Pilates, Chi-Kung, strength training, sound trips, hypopressive exercises, and even flamenco barefoot classes.
“We are not a yoga center to use. What we want is to offer self-knowledge and exploration tools to be oneself,” Rüd clarifies.

Chamberí’s Magnet for Argentines
Although Chamberí’s choice had more to do with her aunt’s stories, it’s not surprising that Casa Kavi finds itself in these streets. Known as “Little Buenos Aires,” this area is filled with businesses led by Argentines, making Casa Kavi a perfect fit.

Open from Monday to Sunday
The space design itself forces anyone to cross the door and question what they want to do and where they want to go. “There is a place to be, drink a drink, a snack, and spend there the time needed. And a room in the background, Mksha, to meditate, to be silent, read…”, Rüd explains.
Kathi Rüd’s Casa Kavi is more than just a yoga center; it’s a space for self-discovery and self-care in the heart of Madrid. With personalized plans and various activities, Casa Kavi invites you to explore your body’s needs and find your place in life again.
