MADCUP presents the second edition of MADCUP BASKET

Yesterday morning, in the Assembly Hall of the Rectorate of the University of Alcalá, MADCUP was presented the second edition of MADCUP BASKET, a sporting event that seeks to continue the legacy of success and values established in its first appointment in March 2024. This year, MADCUP strengthened its commitment with women’s sports and training future generations of athletesbetting on high-level competition from April 10 to 16, 2025.

News in II EDITION

As a main innovation, MADCUP BASKET included an elite women’s tournament in the under-16 category, which will feature the participation of the best women’s basketball academies in Spain, such as Casademont Zaragoza, Club Joventut Badalona, ​​​​​​Movistar Estudiantes, Valencia Basket and Zentro Madrid.

This tournament will be played from April 10-13, 2024similar to the men’s elite tournament, which is also the host good teams such as Real Madrid Baloncesto, Unicaja Baloncesto, Gran Canaria, Valencia Basket, Casademont Zaragoza and the German club IBAM.

As for MADCUP BASKET BASE, which will take place from April 13 to 16, MADCUP is committed to greater internationalization of the event with the aim of attracting teams from outside Spain. In this edition, more than 120 teams and 1,500 players, playing more than 300 matches in different locations which, in addition to Alcalá de Henares, which will continue to be the headquarters, will include the towns of Alcobendas, Daganzo and Torrejón de Ardoz.

In addition, and following the line of growth, a new 3×3 tournament was created in the junior men’s and women’s categories, which will be played in general on Monday, April 14 at the Espartales Sports Complex, in Alcalá de Henares.

Institutional Support and Ambassadors MADCUP BASKET 2025

The presentation of the second edition of MADCUP BASKET was attended by important personalities and institutions. Among them, José Vicente Saz, rector of the University of Alcalá, who promoted the impact of grassroots sport in the training of new generations and Judith Piquet, mayor of Alcalá de Henares, the town that will be the main venue of the tournament. In addition, Alberto Tomé, General Director of Sports of the Community of Madrid, highlighted the Community’s commitment to education and grassroots sports, supporting this initiative that places the region at the center of sports training.

The event also has the support of Madrid Basketball Federationrepresented on this occasion by its president, Santos Moraga.

Likewise, new ambassadors are presented in this edition: Gracia Alonso De Armiño, Movistar Estudiantes player and Olympic silver medalist in the women’s 3×3 basketball tournament in Paris 2024; Javier Beirsen, player and World Champion with the Spanish team in China 2019; and Juana Camilión, also a Movistar Estudiantes player and silver medalist in 3×3 basketball at Paris 2024.

With this activity, MADCUP reaffirmed its mission to promote grassroots sports, promote the values ​​of respect, effort and cooperation, and consolidate the Community of Madrid as a reference for the training of sports worldwide.

MADCUP BASKET is an international grassroots basketball tournament with the participation of more than 100 teams and 1,000 players. MADCUP BASKET is created with the main collaboration of the Community of Madrid (Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports), and UN Tourism, in accordance with the regulations of the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) and Madrid Basketball Federation (FBM), and with collaboration with Alcalá Basketball Club. The entire project was developed with the participation of the PRODIS Foundation, a foundation committed to people with disabilities, to help them in their personal and professional development.
