IPD Academy Fuels Youth Sports Development in Loreto, Spotlights Judo Rising Star

The Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD) Academy is making a significant impact on youth sports in the Loreto region, benefiting more than 1,200 children and adolescents with free access to training in seven different sports. The program has also yielded early success stories, including the emergence of a promising judo athlete poised for national and international competition.

Expanding Access to Sports in Loreto

Since January 15th, the IPD Academy has been offering classes in canoeing, soccer, volleyball, judo, athletics, handball, and field tennis. These sessions are being held at the Max Augustín Stadium, the Juan Pinasco Villanueva Closed Coliseum, and the Casa y Pesca Club in the Punchana district.

The program’s reach has been substantial, registering a total of 1,259 beneficiaries who are strengthening their athletic skills through this free initiative.

Judo Talent Shines on National Stage

One standout participant is teenager Benjamín Burnside De la Cruz, a judo student who recently achieved a gold medal at the 2026 National Cadet Championship. This accomplishment has earned him a place on the Peruvian judo team, which will compete in the South American Youth Games later this year.

This achievement allowed the athlete to join the Peruvian judo team that will participate in the South American Youth Games, which will be held this year.

The IPD Academy offers a comprehensive range of 26 sports disciplines, available to children and young people aged 6 to 17. The program aims to:
