Breaking News: Sebastian Sawe and Tigist Assefa Win London Marathon
Sebastian Sawe and Tigist Assefa emerged victorious in the elite races at the 2025 London Marathon, held on Sunday, April 27, with Marcel Hug and Catherine Debrunner retaining their wheelchair crowns.
Sawe broke clear with 10km to go and never looked like being caught, backing up his debut victory in the Valencia Marathon. Uganda’s half-marathon world record holder Jacob Kiplimo was second on his marathon debut.
Defending champion Alexander Mutiso Munyao outsprinted Olympic silver medallist Abdi Nageeye for third. The men’s race was won in a time of 2:06:21.
In the women’s race, Olympic champion Tigist Assefa cleared away from Joyciline Jepkosgei with 5km to go to clinch her first win since setting the women’s only world record in the Berlin Marathon two years ago. Four-time London winner Eliud Kipchoge finished sixth in 2:19:05.
