Eventing World Mourns Loss of Mr. Bass

The equestrian community is in mourning following the passing of Mr. Bass, the accomplished eventing horse ridden by Laura Collett. The 18-year-old Holsteiner, affectionately known as “Chuck” at home, died recently, prompting an outpouring of tributes from fans and fellow competitors.

Collett and Mr. Bass achieved significant success throughout their partnership, including winning the seven-year-old World Championships at Le Lion D’Angers in 2015. He consistently placed highly in competition, securing second place at Luhmühlen in 2018 and finishing in the top ten at four-star level 16 times out of 26 starts.

“Last night I had to say the hardest goodbye of my life… Goodbye, Chuck. Thank you for all the wonderful moments,”

Mr. Bass faced a tendon injury in 2019, initially recovering but experiencing a recurrence, leading to his retirement from eventing in 2021. He spent his final years at Collett’s Gloucestershire base.

Dressage Community Remembers Chablis

Truppa and Chablis enjoyed a successful career together, winning individual gold at the European Championships for young riders in 2006 and individual bronze in 2007. They debuted in the Grand Prix in 2008.

“I loved you so much, you never let me down and I can only say thank you for that,”
