Stroll: Aston Martin Aiming for Top Two Rows Despite Zandvoort Smash
In a dramatic turn of events, Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll is confident his team can secure a top-two qualifying position at the Dutch Grand Prix, despite a major crash in Friday’s second practice session at Zandvoort.
From there, I was just a passenger. Just one of those things.– Lance Stroll
Stroll’s FP2 Crash
FP2 was just 11 minutes old when Stroll, a Canadian driver, lost control of his car at the circuit’s renowned left-hand banking at Turn 3, destroying the right-hand side of his vehicle. Thankfully, he avoided a trip to the medical center and any complications with his previously broken wrists.
“It was just a little lock-up,” Stroll explained. “Just one of those things.”
Aston Martin’s Competitive Performance
Aston Martin’s performance has been impressive so far. Stroll and teammate Fernando Alonso finished third and fourth respectively in FP1, with Alonso splitting McLaren duo Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri in FP2, finishing only 0.087s behind Norris and 0.002s ahead of Piastri.
For sure, we looked competitive throughout the day, and with Fernando in FP2.– Lance Stroll
Stroll believes the AMR25’s competitive performance at the Hungaroring last time out is a good omen for Zandvoort, another tight, twisty track.
Qualifying Ambitions
Can Aston Martin secure the top two rows in qualifying? Stroll thinks so. “I think so. For sure, it looks that way. We’ll see,” he said optimistically.
