Executives send letter to Sports Fair Committee urging disciplinary action against Chairman Kim
[더팩트 l 광주=나윤상 기자] On the 10th, executives of the Korea Badminton Association delivered a letter to the Sports Fair Committee requesting disciplinary action against Chairman Taek-gyu Kim in relation to verbal violence against an office employee.
The reason the executives sent the letter to the Fair Trade Commission appears to be to protest that the Fair Trade Commission has not taken any action against Chairman Kim, who is running for re-election even though Chairman Kim’s verbal abuse is a disciplinary matter, right before the association president election on the 16th.
On the 8th, the Badminton Association’s Election Steering Committee judged Chairman Kim to be disqualified and decided to invalidate the decision to register as a candidate, but Chairman Kim protested against this and filed an application for a temporary injunction to suspend the election for the president of the Association to the Seoul Eastern District Court.
Previously, after Ahn Se-young (23, Samsung Life Insurance), a badminton gold medalist at the 2024 Paris Olympics, made a decisive statement toward the Korea Badminton Association, suspicions were raised that Chairman Kim had abused his power and verbally abused employees, along with unfair contracts.
Due to these suspicions, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism requested Chairman Kim’s dismissal through the audit results.
However, although the association is implementing and improving most of the requirements of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, it did not accept suspicions such as the president’s corruption.
Association executives wrote in a letter, “The incident occurred in April last year during an association workshop where Chairman Kim used unspeakable language at a dinner party attended by about 40 people, including office staff, for about 20 minutes, and Chairman Kim himself confirmed this in an interview. “He admitted it,” he said, adding, “Currently, we have taken steps to report it to the Ministry of Labor.”
He emphasized, “Chairman Kim’s actions clearly constitute verbal abuse, and he must be disciplined for this as a serious violation specified in the Sports Fair Committee regulations.”
According to the Fair Trade Commission’s disciplinary regulations, if verbal violence occurs habitually, qualifications may be suspended for between 1 and 3 years, and if verbal violence occurs accidentally, qualifications may be suspended for between 3 months and 1 year.
