Koepka Returns to Cognizant Classic, Eyes Masters Momentum

Brooks Koepka discusses his return to the PGA Tour and preparation for the Masters.

The Palm Beaches are welcoming Brooks Koepka back to the Cognizant Classic this week, marking his first appearance at the tournament in three years. Koepka’s return coincides with a determined push to regain peak form ahead of the Masters Tournament in April.

Rejoining the PGA Tour After LIV Golf

Koepka is competing in his third PGA Tour event since rejoining the tour after a nearly four-year stint with LIV Golf. His return was facilitated by the PGA Tour’s Returning Member Program, which included a $5 million charitable donation, fulfilling an agreement made in January. Funds are being directed through PGA Tour Charities.

Addressing Short Game Struggles

Koepka has been working to refine his game after struggling with his short game. He switched from a blade putter to a mallet putter ahead of the WM Phoenix Open.

“I didn’t know where exactly I was hitting it, and obviously when you change putters, speed becomes another thing, and I felt like the speed was slightly off,” Koepka told reporters Wednesday.

Despite missing the cut at the WM Phoenix Open after the putter switch, Koepka believes he is adapting to the new equipment.

“Now I understand exactly where to hit it and where it’s going. I feel like my speed control has gotten better, and just with a few changes, just tidying those things up.” Koepka stated.

Familiar Territory

The Cognizant Classic holds a special place for Koepka, as it’s a tournament he’s participated in since he was 9 or 10 years classic. Playing in his hometown offers a unique advantage.

“It’s definitely weird staying at home…Growing up here, I came every year. I remember carrying the sign. From [the time] I was 9, 10 years old until probably maybe a junior, senior in high school.” Koepka said.

He finished T-16 at the Cognizant Classic in 2022, alongside eight other players.
