Baskonia Ends 17-Year Drought

Kosner Baskonia Vitoria‑Gasteiz captured the 2026 Copa del Rey with a thrilling 100-89 victory over Real Madrid at Roig Arena in Valencia. This marks the club’s seventh Copa del Rey title and their first since 2009.

The final was attended by King Felipe VI, who later presented the trophy to Baskonia captain Markus Howard.

Real Madrid started strong, establishing a 13-2 lead early in the first quarter. Although, Baskonia quickly responded, tying the game and eventually taking a lead. The game remained competitive throughout, with both teams trading blows.

Baskonia’s victory was fueled by standout performances from Trent Forrest, Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot, and Eugene Omoruyi.

King Felipe VI also congratulated the Spanish athletes who participated in the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympic Games, acknowledging their performance and the three medals won, including a gold medal in ski mountaineering.
