After a perfectly successful first day, the Palmarosa festival took place on Saturday his second round of concerts at the Domaine de Grammont in Montpellier. Between the electro-pop of From Kazy Lamb and Kid Francescoli and the rock of Gossip and The Vaccines in particular, the audience was copiously served before being just as much rained down in the final moments. Waiting for an equally stunning final day this Sunday.
Kazy Lambist at home
Good idea to start the day gently with Calypso Valois on the Rosa stage. Worthy heir of talented parents Elli Medeiros and Jacno, the latter reveals a luminous and suave pop, with some seductive melodic flights. More than enough to draw the audience in, some of whose dancers could be hired in the singer’s next video clip. A perfect introduction to the program that was to follow.

Then on the main stage at the stage’s venue and awaited Kazy Lambist. After having multiplied the dates in the four corners of the world, the Montpellier native brilliantly delivers his classy electro-pop at home. From his old titles (Doing Yoga, Big Fish, Love Song…) to the most recent (Moda Disco, Nirvana…), the young man alternates the atmospheres by leaving, accustomed to featuring, willingly the lead to his excellent backing singer Rose. Completed by a bassist, the trio avoids artifices to the detriment of a generous sincerity to embark the audience. Perfect until the end, Kazy Lambist does not forget to greet his long-time friend Amaury Giraud today in the audience. A first big concert at home perfectly successful.
Back on the Rosa stage with another group formed in Montpellier, now exiled and back for the occasion in Hérault. In a totally different register, the quartet Bandit Bandit sends a very heavy rock, between garage and stoner, stunned by a smashing bass-drums duo, sustained guitar riffs and a singer with a raw voice who does tons on stage. Enough to raise dust in pogo…
On the big stage, in the wake of their joint American tour, Kid Francescoli takes over from Kazy Lambist. A natural and obvious musical connection between the Marseillais and the Montpellier native illustrated on stage. While varying the atmospheres, alternating between the soft and the hard, he also delegates the leading role to his guitarist-singer Andréa Durand. Sometimes a little cold, it remains that it is in the trance loops of hits like Prince Vince or the heady Moon, extended as desired in conclusion, that we take the most pleasure.
Between two concerts, the Mixeuses Solidaires perform as always in different registers, leaving no respite for festival-goers who would not be satisfied. A sure bet as with each outing of one of the members of the collective.
Gossip and The Vaccines before the flood
Headlining the evening, Gossip kept all its promises. And much more. Led by the iconic Beth Ditto and pushed by a powerful formation, the group rolls out its hits with force and power. Very playful with the audience, taking the opportunity to improve her yogurty Franglais, the singer demonstrates once again that she is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful voices in the world. With crazy charisma, Beth Ditto carries the crowd with Move in the Right Direction sung in chorus, from a Standing in the Way of Control to wake up the neighbors of the Grammont cemetery to a final thunderous Heavy Cross to make cell phones stand up. Too bad her crystal clear voice doesn’t go as far as breaking screens…

After a short break, The Vaccines ended the evening under a light drizzle. In the tradition of the post-2000 “The” groups, the English provide classy rock that knows how to draw on Smithian influences as well as succumb to more American flights of fancy. The flashes of Teenage Icon or Heartbreak Kid are thus a summary of the devastating efficiency of almost forty-somethings who have not forgotten their teenage emotions and passions as the rock groups of our British neighbors know so well how to do.
In the last minutes of the concert, the light rain turned into a deluge and the organizers had to close up shop a little earlier than expected. But that was not enough to spoil the party and the prospect of a third round of concerts, which we would not recommend missing: Howlin Jaw, The Kills and the very rare Soulwax for an explosive finish.
