The Yucatan Lions have announced the signing of Japanese pitcher Katsuki Matayoshi for the 2026 season of the Mexican Baseball League (LMB). Matayoshi brings a wealth of experience from Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB), Japan’s highest level of professional baseball.
Matayoshi is a right-handed pitcher who has established his career in NPB. He began his professional career in 2013 with the Kagawa Olive Guyners in the Japanese independent league, where he quickly gained recognition for his effectiveness.
From Independent League Standout to NPB Key Contender
His performance with the Kagawa Olive Guyners, including a standout season in 2013 with 24 games pitched, a 13–4 win-loss record, a 1.64 ERA, and 101 strikeouts in 131.1 innings, drew the attention of NPB organizations.
In 2013, Matayoshi was drafted by the Chunichi Dragons, debuting with the team in 2014. He quickly became a key piece
of their bullpen.
During his time with the Chunichi Dragons, Matayoshi recorded a lifetime ERA of 2.84, accumulated numerous appearances and holds, and earned selections to the Japanese league’s All-Star Game.
