Judo Team La Fenice Athletes Shine at Italian Rookies A and B Trophy

The Judo Team La Fenice of Brugherio demonstrated impressive skill and determination at the Italian Rookies A and B Trophy, held on March 7th and 8th, 2026, in Leinì (TO) at PalaMaggiore. The competition featured over 800 athletes from across Italy, making it a significant event on the national youth Judo circuit.

Strong Performances from Scavone and Garau

Greta Scavone made her debut with a challenging match against Amelia Pagani of Kumikai Parma, who ultimately secured a silver medal. Despite the initial setback, Scavone displayed resilience in the recovery rounds, advancing to the quarterfinals and finishing in 9th place overall. A notable moment was her successful execution of an ippon with O-soto-gari, a judo throwing technique described as “large external mow” which involves projecting the opponent backwards by cutting down their outside leg although simultaneously disrupting their balance.

Sunday saw Giulia Garau compete at this high level for the first time. She achieved several victories, including a spectacular ippon with Tani-otoshi, and reached the semi-finals, ultimately securing 5th place – an excellent result for her debut.
