The seventh-seeded Serbian, Novak Jokovic, battled through a back injury to defeat British No. 1 Cameron Norri in four grueling sets (6-4, 6-7, 6-2, 6-3) during the men’s singles third round at the US Open.

Jokovic, 38, becomes the oldest player to reach the US Open men’s singles quarterfinals since 1991. He will next face Peter Gojowczyk, the “dark horse” German qualifier.
Two Top Seeds Eliminated
- Spain’s second seed, Carlos Alcaraz, cruised past Italian player Lorenzo Daldiri 6-2, 6-4, 6-0 and will next face Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in the quarterfinals.
- Fourth seed Taylor Fritz outlasted Swiss qualifier Alexandre Müller (7-6, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4), but No. 17 seed Frances Tiafoe fell to Gojowczyk in straight sets (6-3, 6-4, 6-3).
- No. 6 seed Andrey Rublev retired due to a shoulder injury against Italian veteran Fabio Fognini after the fourth set (6-4, 6-4, 4-6, 2-6, ret.).
Sabalenka Avenges Loss, Advances to Quarterfinals
World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus defeated 2021 US Open runner-up Leylah Fernandez 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) to advance to the women’s singles quarterfinals.

- Qualifier Elisabetta Cocciaretto upset No. 30 seed Petra Martić 6-2, 6-2.
