Wiese’s ‘Sad’ Red Card and Apology
In an unfortunate turn of events, Jasper Wiese found himself sent off for a dangerous tackle in the 67th minute of South Africa’s 32-18 win over Wales in Cardiff. The incident left Wiese visibly dejected, as he admitted, “I let the team down… I’m sorry.”
The 23-year-old lock was visibly emotional after the incident, highlighting the gravity of the situation and his remorse. “I’m really sad because I’ve let my team down, and I’ve let my family down,” Wiese said post-match.
Disciplinary Process Launched
World Rugby has confirmed that an independent disciplinary panel will consider the citing against Wiese. The panel will be chaired by Adam Cassell (Wales), joined by former professional rugby players and qualified lawyers, Sean Henry (England) and Jean-Noël Rouquette (France).
In a statement, World Rugby said, “Wiese was cited for alleged infringement of Law 9.13, which deals with dangerous tackling, following a tackle on Wales player Tommy Reffell in the 67th minute of the match. The player has denied the alleged infringement.” The hearing will take place via video conference on Tuesday, July 19.
Other Disciplinary Cases
The same disciplinary process also involves Scottish fullback Darcy Graham, Romanian prop Ionut Alexandru Harasim, and Welsh hooker Kirby Myhill for other incidents that occurred during the same matchweek.

The young lock’s absence, along with other potential disciplinary consequences, could impact their planning for the tournament.
