Raise your hand if after an hour and 26 minutes of play and down two sets to zero, you would have bet on Jannik Sinner to win. The blue player is stoic and turns the situation around, wins in the fifth set against the Russian Daniil Medvedev and wins his first Slam. He is the third Italian to win a Slam, after Pietrangeli (who won two) and Panatta who won one. This proves that tennis is truly a strange sport: the head first of all. Then the shots.

The match begins on an uphill climb for the South Tyrolean player; the Russian doesn’t miss a beat, conquers his service turns with aces, winners along the line, varies his game, goes to the net and brings Sinner to his knees who instead struggles to find a square. The first serve doesn’t go in, he is forced to defend himself, but he doesn’t close.

In the second set the blue has a few more chances, he wastes a break point and also loses the second set, with the same score of 6-3.

In the third set, the blue comes out of the cage into which Medvedev had forced him in the first two parts of the game. He takes the lead, first wins the third set and then the fourth.

In the fifth set Sinner takes the lead, breaking the Russian to take the lead 4-2.
He closed in five sets (3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3) and became the third Italian to win a Slam.

Jannik still remains number four in the world, but a new season opens for him. After overcoming the obstacle of the first grand slam, the blue gains confidence. You’ll see some beautiful ones.
Meanwhile, on February 1st, together with the Italian team, he will be at the Quirinale to meet the head of state. And in all likelihood he will be a super guest at the Sanremo Festival.
