Judo Event in Poland Marred by Anti-Semitic Incident; Israeli Delegation Expelled

Bielsko-Biała, Poland – An international judo competition in Poland turned hostile this weekend when an Israeli delegation, including children as young as 7, faced a barrage of anti-Semitic abuse and physical assault. The outcome? A surprise expulsion order for the entire Israeli delegation.

Hostile Atmosphere and Anti-Semitic Slurs

The ordeal began early Saturday morning, as reported by members of the Israeli delegation comprising around 90 athletes aged 7 to 16 from three clubs in Or Akiva and Sharon. Throughout the day, anti-Semitic slurs echoed through the venue in Bielsko-Biała, with children and coaches hearing provocative chants such as “Free Palestine” and “Here are the Jews coming.”

It was shocking. The children, some very young, were trying to concentrate on their matches, but the insults and jeers were relentless.

Escalation and Assault

Two coaches approached the referees to intervene, but the situation quickly deteriorated. A group of about 12 Polish men allegedly approached the coaches, raised their hands, and physically assaulted them in front of the young athletes and other participants.

The assault was a turning point. The feeling of fear and shock within the entire delegation was palpable.

Expulsion Instead of Justice

Instead of punishing the aggressors or addressing the hostile environment, the organizers took the incomprehensible decision to expel the entire Israeli delegation, leaving the Israeli athletes and coaches shocked and dismayed.

The Israeli delegation remains confined to their hotel out of fear for their safety. Club officials have expressed deep shock and demanded a serious reaction from official Polish authorities and international organizations.

We went to Poland for a sports competition with children, and we came back with an experience of fear, violence, and anti-Semitism that we never should have encountered on a sports field.

Call for Action

Club officials have urged official Polish authorities and international organizations to take unequivocal action regarding this incident.
