Peruvian Sports Institute Inspires Young Talent at IPD Academy Sports Camp

The Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD) recently hosted the IPD Academy Sports Camp, a two-day event that brought together over 200 eager young athletes between the ages of 10 and 14 at the Canto Grande Sports Complex in San Juan de Lurigancho. The camp, dedicated to nurturing and promoting youth sports development, was an absolute blast for all involved.

Olympians and Champions Lead the Way

Participants were treated to classes in seven different sports – volleyball, softball, wrestling, basketball, boxing, judo, and soccer – led by a who’s who of Peruvian sports figures. Among them were:

  • Pedro Normand, double gold medalist in judo from the upcoming Ayacucho-Lima 2025 Bolivarian Games.
  • Dilmer Calle, former world boxing champion.
  • Alberto ‘Chiquito’ Rossel, member of the senior volleyball team’s technical command.
  • Former soccer stars José Soto and José Pereda.

-Coaches from premier wrestling, softball, and basketball teams also joined in, providing invaluable guidance and inspiration.

Great initiative by the IPD to promote different disciplines in this Sports Camp. There are many talents that will gradually develop and integrate into the sports teams.” – Dilmer Calle – Dilmer Calle, former world boxing champion

It is good that volleyball and other sports continue to spread in areas that are not as central as Canto Grande. There are young people with great conditions who, thanks to the IPD Academy, will be able to have a great future.” – Martín Escudero – Martín Escudero, member of the senior volleyball team’s technical command

Sports and Beyond

Beyond the physical activities, the camp also offered nutritional talks, psychological workshops, and anthropometric tests, ensuring the young athletes’ well-being both on and off the field. Students also participated in friendly soccer matches against the delanteros universitarios de deportes U-14 squad, showcasing their newfound skills in a competitive environment.

To wrap up the event, the IPD handed out sports kits and invited motivated students to join the IPD 2026 Academy, set for the next summer season.

There are so many talented kids here. It’s a matter of time before we see them competing on the global stage.”
