The city of Hagen witnessed a significant display of law enforcement on Wednesday, October 9th, as police carried out a special operation to tackle street crime in the city center. Supported by riot police from neighboring Bochum, the local police aimed to strengthen public safety and reassure the local community.
Early Starts and Multiple Checkpoints
The operation commenced at around 3 p.m. at the strategically important intersection of Stresemannstrasse and Bahnhofstrasse. Following an initial investigation by plainclothes officers, the emergency services moved in to carry out identity checks. Two individuals were identified, and voluntary saliva samples were taken. Both individuals were then allowed to continue on their way.
Subsequent to this, police checked various locations around the city, including Bodelschwinghplatz, the train station forecourt, and Volmepark. A total of 130 individuals were checked during the operation.
Business Inspections and Vehicle Checks
In addition to these public checks, the police also visited four businesses near the train station. Simultaneously, the city’s public order service conducted business inspections. Several people were checked within these establishments. Police also looked into five vehicles during the operation.
Results and Future Plans
- The operation resulted in 130 people checks, five vehicle checks, and several ongoing investigations.
- The city’s public order service identified 54 parking violations, seized an e-cigarette and pepper spray, carried out five business inspections, checked four slot machines, and determined the personal details of five individuals.
- Two reports were sent to the job center.
The operation concluded at around 9 p.m., and the Hagen police have stated that they will continue to carry out regular priority checks in the city center and at well-known meeting points to ensure ongoing public safety.
