Guwahati Masters 2024: Priyanshu, Tanvi into pre-quarters

Top seeds Priyanshu Rajawat and Tanvi Sharma advanced to the Guwahati Masters pre-quarterfinals where Hemant Unati Hooda exited the Super 100 Badminton tournament.

Priyanshu was made to sweat by compatriot Arya Bhivpatki before sealing the match 22-20, 21-14 in 35 minutes.

Tanvi upset seventh seeded compatriot Tanya Hemnath 21-18, 21-14 in the opening round to advance to the round of 16.

Priyanshu will next face his compatriot Tarun Manepally while Tanvi will play Chinese Taipei’s Yi En Hsieh.

In the mixed events, mixed doubles top seeds Satish Kumar Karunakaran and Adhya Variat are in contention with fifth seeds Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Krasto for a quarter-final clash.

Top seeds Nithin HV and Anaga Pai won 21-14, 21-10 while Dhruv and Tanisha beat China’s Liao Pin Yi and Huang Ke Xin 22-20, 21-19.

Like Tanvi, up-and-coming youngster Sriyanshi Valishetti seized the chance to impress by beating Unnati Hooda 21-19, 21-14.

Local hopeful Isharani Baruh played her heart out against India’s Asian Championship star Anmol Karab in the eighth seed, but was on the wrong side of the game losing 10-21, 21-18, 18-21.

In the other matches of the day, Tanim Mir wasted two match points and saved two of her own to beat compatriot Ira Sharma 21-13, 19-21, 24-22 in just over an hour.

He will now face Thai champion Lalinrat Chaiwan, who beat Tanishk 21-5, 21-7.
