The “prince” of Codogno baseball is gone: Pietro Garioni, former pitcher of the Codogno team, was struck down by an illness shortly after midnight, while he was with his partner and young son at home in Casalpusterlengo.
Forty-five years old, a graduate, Garioni managed a canteen for the Pellegrini company in Milan, the city where he had completed his university studies and lived for some time. «He started playing with us as a boy, at nine years old – recalls Giangiacomo Sello, manager of the Codogno Baseball ’67 company -. Then he arrived in Serie A1 and in 2002 he made his debut in Bologna against Fortitudo.” As a pitcher, Garioni also had to overcome a bad shoulder injury. But with all the stubbornness that distinguished him he was back playing at the highest levels. Now his teammates, coaches and managers mourn him. His funeral will be celebrated on Tuesday 17 December at 2.30 pm in the parish church of San Biagio in Codogno, where his beloved mother Liliana lives.
