Johannes Veerman Wins Thrilling Nedbank Golf Challenge
SUN CITY, South Africa – Johannes Veerman claimed his second DP World Tour title on Sunday, winning the Nedbank Golf Challenge by one stroke after home favorite Aldrich Potgieter faltered on the 72nd hole. The tournament, known as “Africa’s Major,” saw a dramatic finish at Gary Player Country Club.
Dramatic Finish at Gary Player Country Club
Veerman finished with a final round of 3-under 69, completing the tournament at 5-under 283. Potgieter, who held a three-shot overnight lead, needed a birdie on the 18th hole to win or a par to force a playoff. However, he pushed his approach into the rough, chipped onto the green, and missed the par putt.
“To leave your family behind, it’s a lot of sacrifice,” said a tearful Veerman. Associated Press
Veerman, ranked 209th, celebrated the potential playoff on the driving range, unaware of Potgieter’s struggles. His previous DP World Tour victory came at the D+D Real Czech Masters in 2021.
Tournament Results
Potgieter, Matthew Jordan (72), and Romain Langasque (71) tied for second place. Max Homa, the 2024 winner, opened the tournament with a 6-under 66 but finished at level par.
