Gladiators Trier Balance Basketball and Culinary Skills, Seem Ahead to Playoffs
The Trier Gladiators are enjoying a season of success, both on and off the court. Recent achievements include earning rewards for wins and receiving recognition for team performance, all while preparing for the challenges ahead.
Team Bonding in the Kitchen
The Gladiators recently participated in a unique team-building exercise: a cooking class at the Catholic Family Education Center in Ehrang. This event was a reward for opening the second “treasure chest”
earned by the team, according to reports.
Head coach Jacques Schneider described the course as a complete success, a “cool event”
led by chef Sebastian Winkler. The class wasn’t just a demonstration. players actively participated in preparing roast beef, potato gratin, Palatinate carrots, soup, and dessert.
Schneider noted the varying levels of culinary experience among his players. With Urald King, for example, “he had something good in the kitchen, he was incredibly quick with knives and peelers,”
he reported. Others, however, were less familiar with kitchen tasks.
Looking Ahead: Break and Recognition
The team faces a 19-day break between competitive games, a period Schneider intends to use for player regeneration, both physically and mentally
. Despite the break, the Gladiators are focused on potentially securing a play-in spot.
Recently, the team and coach received accolades. Schneider was named “Coach of the Year”
and the Gladiators were honored as “Team of the Year”
at a TV sportsman election.
National Team Aspirations
While no Gladiators players are currently on the German national team roster, the team is focused on developing players who could reach that level in the future. Coach Schneider highlighted Nolan Adekunle as a player with the potential to be considered for the DBB (German Basketball Federation) in the long term.
“If you read the names, then these are players who have the highest international level and play at the highest international level,” says Schneider about the DBB squad. “Our aim is to develop national players. We strive to create training opportunities and conditions in order to bring the players up to this level. From our current squad, Nolan Adekunle comes closest to this round. The decision lies with the national coaches – and I am sure that they have thought long and hard about who they choose for this task.”
