German football is in mourning following the passing of former Bundesliga goalkeeper Georg Koch, who died at the age of 54 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Several of his former clubs confirmed the sad news on Wednesday.

A Career Spanning Multiple Clubs

Koch enjoyed a rich and eventful career, making 213 appearances in the Bundesliga and 165 in the 2. Bundesliga. He played for clubs including Fortuna Düsseldorf, Kaiserslautern, MSV Duisburg, and PSV Eindhoven. He retired professionally on January 23, 2009, at the age of 38.

Diagnosis and Passing

In April 2023, Koch received a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, which proved incurable. He passed away on March 4, 2026, just one month after his 54th birthday.

Club Successes and Later Roles

Koch was known for his role in helping clubs achieve promotion. He participated in promotions to the Bundesliga with Fortuna Düsseldorf (1995), Arminia Bielefeld (1999), and MSV Duisburg (2005 and 2007). With Dinamo Zagreb, he won the league title and the Croatian Cup.
