German Tennis Association Excels: Wins and Duels Highlight DTB Aces’ Successes

Good day for the hopefuls of the German Tennis Association: On Wednesday, the majority of the DTB aces celebrated victories. At the W75 tournament in Prague (Czech Republic) a duo even reached the round of 16.

19-year-old Ella Seidel (number 146 in the world rankings) reached the round of 16 in Prague with a 6:3 and 6:4 win against the Japanese Himeno Sakatsume (number 259 in the world rankings). Seidel had his serve stolen three times, but kept his nerve in the crucial moments and recorded a total of six breaks himself.

Also in the Czech capital, Noma Noha Akugue is in the next round. The number 175 in the world rankings had more problems than expected against the Russian Jana Kolodynska (number 244 in the world rankings), but after a false start, she ultimately prevailed 4:6, 6:4 and 6:2.

In the round of 16 there could be a German duel between Noha Akugue and Stephanie Wagner (number 455 in the world rankings). To do this, however, Wagner first has to overcome her first-round hurdle, the Italian Jessica Pieri (number 535 in the world rankings).

The German talents were also able to celebrate some successes among the men.

At the M25 event in Kursumlijska Banja (Serbia), 20-year-old Liam Gavrielides (number 647 in the world rankings) reached the next round with a 6:2-6:3 triumph over Bulgarian George Lazarov (currently not ranked in the world rankings). . In the round of 16, Gavrielides now challenges DTB youngster Yannik Kelm (number 1304 in the world rankings).

Kelm defeated the Macedonian Obrad Markovski (number 1605 in the world rankings) 6:2 and 6:4. It was his first win in a main draw since September 2023.

24-year-old Nicolas Kuhn (number 444 in the world rankings) also made it to the round of 16 at the M25 tournament in Valldoreix, Spain. Kuhn gave the Spaniard Rafael Izquierdo Luque (number 1020 in the world rankings) no chance at 6:4 and 6:1.

In Värnamo, Sweden, Marvin Möller (number 308 in the world rankings) and Ruben Hartig (number 1185 in the world rankings) celebrated successes for the DTB. Möller defeated the Swede Oskar Jansson (number 1605 in the world rankings), Hartig retained the upper hand against the Swede Adam Heinonen (number 980 in the world rankings).

Squire misses little surprise

Marlon Vankan (number 553 in the world rankings) had no problems at all in the first round of the M15 tournament in Antalya (Turkey). The 23-year-old lived up to his role as favorite in the 6:1 and 6:1 against Slovakian Norbert Marosik (number 1701 in the world rankings).

In addition to Vankan, 22-year-old John Sperle (number 774 in the world rankings) reached the round of 16 in Antalya thanks to a 6:3 and 6:4 over Georgian Saba Purtseladze (number 616 in the world rankings). Luca Wiedenmann, however, was eliminated at the same point.

Henri Squire, who was recently so strong, missed a little surprise at the Challenger in Prague. Squire, who has now climbed to number 209 in the world rankings, was narrowly defeated by the Swiss Leandro Riedi (number 148 in the world rankings) 7:6, 4:6 and 4:6.
