Record Participation Marks German Senior Tennis Championships

The 2026 German Senior Championships, held in Essen, have been hailed a resounding success, boasting a record-breaking number of participants. Organizers from the DTB (German Tennis Association) and the Lower Rhine Tennis Association (TVN) expressed their delight at the turnout.

Record Numbers at Essen Event

A total of 650 players competed in the national title fights, spread across 24 competition classes ranging from over 30 to over 90 years of age. When doubles competitions are included, the total number of registrations climbs to an impressive 736.

When the draw for this year’s German Senior Championships in Essen came around, those responsible at DTB, the organizing Lower Rhine Tennis Association (TVN) and the tournament organization were all smiles.

Bavarian Players Shine

Players from Bavaria made a significant impact at the championships, with Jan Polland (TV Feldkirchen) and Norbert Henn (TC Amberg am Schanzl) securing titles in their respective age groups.

Polland and Henn Claim Gold

Norbert Henn, a seasoned champion and top seed in the men’s 65 competition, lived up to expectations. Jan Polland’s victory, however, came as a surprise.

Polland won all five of his matches en route to the final in straight sets. The final against Jörg Rahn from Hamburg was a closely contested affair, but Polland prevailed 7-6, 7-5. Polland also teamed up with Uwe Semrau (STK Garching) to win the men’s 60 doubles title.
