Hubert Hurkacz has already won a tournament on all surfaces

Of course: If Boris Becker had really wanted to win a clay court tournament, then he would have competed in many smaller events. The Red Baron came close several times, most closely at the classic in Monte-Carlo, where he already had the championship on his racket in the final against Thomas Muster. Of course, Becker’s career was brilliant even without the victory on the ashes.

It is questionable whether Hubert Hurkacz will ever penetrate such spheres. After all, he is a whopping six Grand Slam titles short of Becker. Among other things. But: With his success in Estoril, the Pole has now also celebrated a tournament success on clay. There are also titles on grass (HalleWestfalen 2022), on hard courts (e.g. in Shanghai 2023 or in Miami 2021) and indoors (e.g. Metz 2021). So the set is full. Or as they would say in the USA: “The monkey is off the back.”

Zverev is missing the title on grass

Ben Shelton isn’t quite there yet. But sand was probably the surface on which the young American had the most difficulty. See you Sunday. Shelton managed to win the final against Frances Tiafoe in Houston. But Shelton isn’t as far along as Hurkacz yet: so far he’s only won in Tokyo last fall. He could really like the grass; the facilities are also there in the hall.

What else does it look like when it comes to all-court winners? Apart from Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. Carlos Alcaraz still has yet to win an indoor championship, Jannik Sinner has not yet been successful on grass. Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas, on the other hand, are fully involved. Or Dominic Thiem.

Alexander Zverev is of course doing great with his 21 tour titles – including the Olympics and the ATP Finals twice. On grass, the German number one only made it to the two finals in Halle in 2016 (defeat against Florian Mayer) and 2017 (defeat against Roger Federer).
