San Antonio cracked (114-113) against New Orleans on Friday while the Texans had the match ball in their hands.

Victor Wembanyama’s San Antonio Spurs missed the winning shot for a one-point defeat against the New Orleans Pelicans (114-113) on Friday in the NBA.

Fullback Devin Vassell had the winning ball in hand but his long shot only found the circle, a cruel outcome of a tense end to the match.

Victor Wembanyama made a superb block on Zion Williamson a minute from time, allowing the Spurs to regain the ball with a one-point lead, then take a three-point lead after two free throws from Tre Jones.

After a Williamson dunk, Tre Jones missed a layup, and Wembanyama missed his rebound, leaving Williamson to escape in transition for a decisive layup, 4 seconds from time. Zion Williamson finished as the game’s top scorer with 33 points and 8 rebounds, ahead of Vassell (28 points).

Wembanyama was more discreet in scoring (16 points), but added 14 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 blocks. The 20-year-old Frenchman distinguished himself before half-time with an acrobatic one-handed shot off-center, with the opposing pivot Jonas Valenciunas making a mistake.

The Spurs thus lost their third meeting of the week at home, and remained last in the West with 10 wins and 39 defeats, before hosting Cleveland on Saturday.

The Pelicans took advantage of this to equal the record of the Phoenix Suns (28 wins – 21 losses) and are 6th in the same conference.
