Carlos Delgado, Jeep Team Up for Prostate Cancer Awareness at World Baseball Classic
San Juan – Puerto Rican baseball legend Carlos Delgado is the official spokesperson for Bat for the Cure
, a social responsibility initiative driven by Jeep® brands that seeks to educate and raise awareness about prostate cancer.
Free Screenings Available During Tournament
The campaign will promote early detection of this disease through free and confidential PSA blood tests for men over 40 years of age during the World Baseball Classic 2026 at Hiram Bithorn Stadium. The effort aims to amplify a clear and urgent message: prevention can make the difference between life, and death.
Prostate Cancer Incidence in Puerto Rico
Prostate cancer continues to be a major health concern for men in Puerto Rico. On average, 3,300 men are diagnosed each year on the island. Statistics display that one in six Puerto Rican men will face this disease during their lifetime.
Currently, prostate cancer accounts for approximately 16% of cancer deaths in men in Puerto Rico. Despite these figures, many men postpone screening tests due to a lack of knowledge, fear, or limited access.
“I experience honored to join Jeep in this exceptionally necessary and laudable initiative that uses the baseball stage to send a message that matters: prevention saves lives. The PSA test is a key tool to detect prostate cancer in time, and today we are providing direct access to men who should undergo this examination. I invite all men to take that step and receive tested,”
Carlos Delgado
Collaborative Effort for Men’s Health
Thanks to a collaborative agreement with Laboratorios Clínicos Toledo and the support of the Association of Urologists of Puerto Rico, free PSA tests will be offered during selected dates of the tournament in the Jeep area.
The PSA (prostate-specific antigen) test is a simple blood test that can detect possible abnormalities in the prostate in early stages, when the chances of successful treatment are considerably higher.
“We understand that having a presence at an event of this magnitude entails a greater responsibility. This proves not just about being present, but about generating real impact. As brands that are part of the lives of thousands of Puerto Rican families, we assume the commitment to promote prevention and facilitate access to tests that can save lives. Bat for the Cure It is our way of converting visibility into action since baseball unites us, but health keeps us in the game,”
Ricardo García, general manager of Stellantis
“Prostate cancer, when detected in early stages, has a high probability of successful treatment. The PSA test is quick, accessible and can offer crucial information to act in time. Initiatives like this help eliminate barriers and bring prevention closer to where men are, which is precisely where we must impact,”
Dr. Alvin López-Pujals, spokesperson and past president of the Association of Urologists of Puerto Rico
