In recent years, the Mets have had a shortage of left-handed pitchers. For the upcoming season, only Brooks Raley and Jake Diekman are guaranteed to be lefty relievers on Opening Day. It is unlikely that Lavender, who is not currently on the 40-man roster, will make the team without a strong performance in spring training. However, a successful spring could lead to his debut happening sooner.

Lavender commented that the key to a successful four-seam fastball is the will behind it, as evidenced by its average speed of 91.3 mph. She explained that a pitch thrown at 92 mph with hesitation is likely to be hit hard, but if thrown with determination and intention, it will be more effective.PORT ST. LUCIE — Carlos Mendoza had heard about Nate Lavender “a lot” since being named Mets manager, a young lefty whose stuff intrigues the club.

Lavender has incorporated a new technique into his throwing programs, where he intermittently lifts his right knee in the air while delivering.

Earlier this week at Yankees’ spring training, Nestor Cortes was seen throwing a football with a smile on his face.

The photo was taken by Charles Wenzelberg for the New York Post.

In the eighth inning, Lavender came into the game and threw 14 pitches to St. Louis’ Mike Antico, Moises Gomez, and Nick Raposo. The three batters swung at the ball seven times, hitting three fouls and missing four times. The strikeouts were achieved with two sinkers and a four-seamer, all thrown under 93 mph.

In just a single game, Lavender proved her worth with three impressive hits.
