Ferrari Chairman Urges Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc to “Focus on Driving and Talk Less”

Elkann warns drivers after double retirement in Sao Paulo

Ferrari chairman John Elkann has issued a stark warning to the team’s Formula 1 drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, urging them to “focus on driving and talk less” as the Scuderia battles to secure second place in the constructors’ championship.

“If we look at the rest, it is not up to scratch… We still have important races ahead of us and getting second place is not impossible. In Bahrain, we won the World Endurance Championship title. When Ferrari is united, we get results.”

Ferrari’s Frustrating Season

Ferrari’s frustration is understandable after coming close to the constructors’ championship last year and failing to win a grand prix this season. The team has slipped to fourth in the standings, 36 points behind rivals Mercedes and four points adrift of Red Bull, with only three grands prix and a sprint remaining.

  • Lewis Hamilton qualified second in Brazil but was forced to retire after suffering a puncture.
  • Charles Leclerc qualified third but was taken out in a crash involving Kimi Antonelli and Oscar Piastri.

Constructors’ Championship Implications

The constructors’ championship determines teams’ prize money, with each position close to the top worth approximately $10 million (£7.6 million) over the place below. McLaren won the title with six races remaining this season, despite finishing only 14 points ahead of Ferrari last year.
