The Louvre museum in Paris is offering yoga classes and other Olympics-themed experiences in its galleries ahead of and during the Paris multi-sport event this year.

The institution is putting on dance, yoga and cardio sessions, as well as sneaker customisation workshops, talks with athletes, and more.

“The Louvre museum and the Olympic and Paralympic Games share the same universal vocation,” museum chief Laurence des Cars said in a press release.

“As Paris hosts the games for the first time in a century, I am delighted that the national domain of the Louvre and the Tuileries gardens will be at the epicenter of the festivities,” she added.

“From the passage of the flame on 14 July to the cycling and marathon events, many highlights of this sporting and cultural celebration will take place at the Louvre.”

The next yoga sessions will be held on 24 May and 14 June. Immersive experiences with a focus on wellness are a major trend to watch in the attractions business at the moment.

The Louvre is also offering a new Olympics-themed exhibition titled ‘Olympism: a modern invention, an ancient heritage’ from today (24 April) until 16 September.

“The exhibition that we are presenting on this occasion will give depth to these games, by reminding us of the sources of modern Olympism and what they owe to the collections of our museum,” Des Cars added.

“In the arts as in sports, inspiration is found at the Louvre and continues to nourish the present.”

In January, the Louvre increased its entrance fee by 29 percent ahead of the Olympics. Until then, the institution had not put up the price of admission since 2017.
