Exciting ‘FootGolf’ National Championship Comes to Álava This Weekend

He ‘FootGolf’ will be the protagonist in Álava this weekend. And from May 10 to 12 Izki Golf will host the 3rd day of the national championship of this sport. A sport that comes to the Alava Mountains for the first time and will feature the best players in the world.

The championship will be held from May 10 to 12 and will have an individual event and a team event:

  • Team test: May 10 and 11.
  • Individual test: May 11 and 12.

It is estimated that there will be around 100 participants. Among them there will be international players from countries such as France, Portugal, Italia and above all, Spain.

Fusion of football and golf

As its name indicates, the ‘FootGolf’ combines soccer and golf. The objective is to put a soccer ball into a hole 52 centimeters in diameter in the fewest possible strokes.

This sport emerged in the Netherlands in 2009 and has a long tradition in Mexico, Argentina, England and France. And, for several years now, also in Basque Country.

And in recent years more and more Basque players are encouraged to practice it on golf courses like Izki. Before they had to travel to France to play. Furthermore, this year they have created FootGolf Euskadithe Basque federation of this discipline.

Taking advantage of their growth, they seek to organize next year the first championship of ‘FootGolf’ in Euskadi. A championship that is recognized by the Spanish ‘Foot Golf’ Federation.
