ASVEL Stuns Anadolu Efes in Overtime Showdown
In a pulsating Euroleague match, ASVEL weathered two overtimes to defeat Anadolu Efes Istanbul 103-99 and secure their fifth win of the season.
ASVEL, currently bottom of the Euroleague, dug deep to overcome their Turkish counterparts in a grueling contest that went to extra time.
Two Teams, One Epic Battle
ASVEL started strong, thanks to a 5-0 run led by Zac Seljaas and Edwin Jackson. However, Anadolu Efes fought back. Vincent Poirier (17 points, 8 rebounds) asserted himself, with Mbaye Ndiaye (13 points, 8 rebounds) also contributing heavily.
Nando de Colo (5 points, 7 assists) sparked ASVEL to regain their lead, but Gromycin Watson Jr.’s three-pointer ensured both teams went into halftime separated by a single point.
Anadolu Efes Storms Back
Anadolu Efes hit their stride in the second half, opening up an eight-point lead. But ASVEL lots 28 points from Bastien Vautier and 18 from Growning Watson Jr. to rally back into contention.
ASVEL led 90-88 with five minutes remaining. The game remained tense, and a three-pointer by Nick Weiler-Babb (20 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists) tied the game at 93 with seven seconds left, leading to the first overtime.
Two Overtimes and a Thrilling Finish
Overtime proved to be a seesaw battle. Rollands Smits (5 points) and Isaia Cordinier (20 points) gave Anadolu Efes a 99-96 advantage with 90 seconds remaining. However, Vautier’s resilience pushed the game into a second overtime.
In the decisive minutes, Mbaye Diaye and Shaquille Harrison (4 points) sealed the deal from the free throw line as ASVEL hung on for a 103-99 victory.
Redemption for ASVEL, but Still at Bottom
ASVEL’s triumph does not move them off the bottom spot in the Euroleague, but it marks a memorable night at the LDLC Arena. Anadolu Efes, meanwhile, slip to 18th after their second consecutive defeat.
