Monaco Ends Winning Drought with Impressive Comeback Victory

Monaco basketball fans finally have something to cheer about. After a frustrating five-game losing streak, including a defeat in the reverse fixture against Baskonia, Monaco returned to winning ways with a convincing 102-92 victory against the Spanish side on Friday in the Euroleague.

“It was a massive win for us, especially after our recent struggles,” said Monaco head coach Vassilis Spanoulis. “We played like a team that wants to be back on top of Europe.”

Mike James, rather discreet in the first half but very visible afterwards (17 points, 8 assists, 3 rebounds), is largely responsible for this revolt led by the Monegasques who did not imagine suffering a sixth consecutive setback and showed it during the last twenty minutes.

Mike James and Dynamic Duo Lead the Charge

Monaco’s resurgence was spearheaded by American guard Mike James, who finished with 17 points and 8 assists. But he wasn’t alone in leading the charge. Nikola Mirotic contributed 16 points and 5 rebounds, while Elie Okobo added 16 points and 6 assists of his own.

Baskonia, led by Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot’s 15 points, made a late surge to narrow the gap, but Monaco held on thanks to timely three-pointers from Juhann Begarin, Alpha Diallo, and Mathew Strazel.
