European League of Football: Future Hangs in Balance After Teams Withdraw
ELF’s 2026 Projections Dashed
“After intensive examination, it is clear: Participation in the European League of Football 2026 is not possible under the given circumstances,” it continues. Although preparations are scheduled to begin in less than eight weeks, there is no binding game plan. Therefore, it is not possible “to work professionally under these circumstances. Issues such as employment contracts, visas, planning security for players, staff and partners cannot be implemented responsibly.”Source
Despite this setback, the organization vows to continue: “In 2026 we will also have a team and offer attractive football. We have been working on alternative, viable models for several weeks in order to give Swiss football and especially young talent a reliable perspective.”
Teams Leaving, Future Uncertain
With the exit of multiple teams, the ELF finds itself almost without a team just months before the planned start of the season. Only the Hamburg Sea Devils, the Cologne Centurions, and the Munich Ravens remain. This exodus follows the separation of the AFLE and the termination of the agreement with the EFA.
Among those leaving, the Mercenaries have announced that fans can refund tickets for the ELF that have already been purchased.
Looking Ahead
The ELF’s future now hangs in the balance. With several teams leaving, the league finds itself in a precarious position just months before the planned start of the season. Despite this, the organization remains committed to finding a solution and moving forward.
