A distressing incident unfolded during the second half of the Eredivisie match between AZ Alkmaar and N.E.C. in the Netherlands. Bas Dost, the visiting striker who ultimately secured a 2-1 victory, suddenly collapsed on the field during a local team’s attack. It was only when an opponent noticed his alarming condition that referee Jeroen Manschot urgently called for medical attention, causing concern among everyone involved.

The match was eventually suspended at the 56th minute, with NEC leading 2-1 thanks to goals from Bas Dost (11 minutes into the game) and Magnus Mattsson. Vangelis Pavlidis had scored for AZ. After receiving medical assistance, Dost regained consciousness as he was being carried off the field on a stretcher. The NEC later confirmed that he was conscious when taken to the hospital for further examination.

Criticism of Manschot flooded social media, as he had passed by Bas Dost when he collapsed but continued to follow the play, seemingly unaware of the seriousness of the situation. He only halted the game when the danger in the NEC area subsided and a member of the home team alerted him.
