Dominican Republic’s Sports Ministry Doubles Funding for Santo Domingo Basketball Championship
SANTO DOMINGO, RD – The Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Sports has significantly increased its investment in the upcoming X Superior Basketball Championship of the Santo Domingo province, doubling the financial allocation to two million pesos. The increased funding will support the tournament, which is dedicated to President Luis Abinader.

The TBS Santo Domingo 2026 is scheduled to tip off this Friday, March 6th, at 7:00 p.m. At the sports center in Los Alcarrizos. Six teams will compete for the championship title:

Minister Kelvin Cruz announced the doubled contribution, explaining that the Ministry’s support has increased from one million pesos in the previous year to two million pesos for 2026. This increase is intended to cover the costs of assembly and organization for the tournament.
Cruz further emphasized the government’s commitment to sports infrastructure, stating that President Luis Abinader has taken over the entire country with more than 100 multi-purpose sports centers and built with the Government’s own funds.
