Roster Continuity Fuels Optimism
The Arizona Diamondbacks are entering the 2026 season with a core group of players largely intact from the 2025 roster and a significant number – 15 in total – who were also part of the 2023 team that reached the World Series. Key players like Merrill Kelly and Zac Gallen have returned, along with closer Paul Sewald, and crucially, Ketel Marte will not be traded.
Manager Torey Lovullo expressed his enthusiasm for the returning group, stating We got the band back together,
according to Arizona Sports 98.7. He acknowledged the comfort that comes with familiarity but cautioned against complacency.
Avoiding Complacency is Key
Lovullo emphasized the need to maintain a competitive edge, despite the roster’s stability. There’s always comfort in that, but that comfort might create a little bit of complacency. So we’re not taking anything for granted,
he said.
He has already begun conversations with key players like Gallen, Kelly, and Marte, urging them to avoid cruise control
and maintain their focus.
Lovullo’s Long-Term Commitment
Torey Lovullo is back for his 10th season with the Diamondbacks, following a season where the team narrowly missed a playoff berth. General Manager Mike Hazen expressed his support for Lovullo, acknowledging the manager’s role in the team’s performance and the importance of their continued partnership.
