Tigers Expand Uniform Options

After over 30 years without regular alternate uniforms, the Detroit Tigers have officially joined the trend, unveiling both an orange and a navy blue alternate jersey for the upcoming 2026 season. This brings the team’s total uniform count to five, the maximum allowed by Major League Baseball.

Fan Input Drives Design

The team’s decision to introduce alternate uniforms followed nearly two years of research, including surveys and focus groups. According to the Tigers, fans expressed a desire for more creative merchandise options and a greater emphasis on the color orange.

“We believe it’s important to ask fans what matters to them and constantly hear responses centred around getting more creative with merchandise, exploring alternate jerseys, incorporating more elements from uniforms worn by the 1984 team, and steering into the colour orange.”

Uniform Details

The orange alternate, designed for home games, features the iconic Olde English “D” logo in navy trimmed with white. The navy alternate, intended for road games, showcases the scripted “Detroit” wordmark in orange with white trim – a design element used on the team’s road grays since the 1990s.

Nod to the Past

Both jerseys incorporate design elements from the Tigers’ 1984 World Series-winning team, including V-necks and three-color sleeve striping. The striping extends to the pants, which will be white with the orange jersey and grey with the navy jersey.

A new circular logo on the sleeves is reminiscent of the Tigers’ roundel-style “tiger head” logos used from 1961 through 1993.

New Caps Complete the Look

Alongside the jerseys, the Tigers are introducing a new alternate cap. It features the Olde English “D” in orange on a navy crown, paired with an orange bill, echoing designs from the 1990s.

Availability

The new uniforms will debut during Spring Training. Fans can purchase the new caps and jerseys starting tomorrow at the D Shop in Detroit and at the team’s Spring Training site in Lakeland. Online availability will follow later this weekend.

Expanding Uniform Rotation

These new uniforms replace the club’s previous Spring Training orange and blue jerseys, which were not worn during regular season games. The orange alternates will join the “Motor City” City Connect uniforms in the home game rotation.

The Tigers, along with the New York Yankees, were among the last MLB teams to adopt regular alternate uniforms.
