DU Gymnastics: Pioneers Shine in Crimson & Gold Intrasquad

DENVER – The University of Denver gymnastics team gave spectators a sneak peek into the upcoming season with their annual Crimson & Gold Intrasquad on Sunday. The Pioneers showed off their skills, with 33 competition-ready routines across the four events, in Magness Arena.

New Faces, Familiar Excellence

Half of the DU roster consisted of newcomers, but the team’s talent and potential were on full display. Head Coach Melissa Kutcher-Rinehart shared her excitement, “I’m proud of how everyone stepped up, especially with so many new individuals to the team… They were strong and aggressive, and demonstrated some consistency that we can build off of.”

Did you know? This year’s roster includes seven newcomers, five of whom showcased at least one competition-ready routine. Freshman Shyla Bhatia even led the way in the all-around with a 39.450!

Pioneer Powerhouse Performances

Senior Cecilia Cooley led the Pioneers in the all-around with a 39.450, while Bhatia was just a tenth behind. Cooley also landed the highest scores on bars (9.925) and beam (9.900). Bhatia’s Yurchenko 1.5 on vault scored a 9.850 along with senior Mila Brusch.

Junior Maddison Reidenbach took the top spot on floor with a 9.925, while Bhatia’s 9.875 and Cooley’s 9.850 rounded out the event’s top three.

Pro Tip: Keep an eye on Cooley and Bhatia this season. Their consistency and strong performances in the intrasquad suggest they’ll be talents to watch in the Pioneers’ 2026 campaign.
