Dennis Schröder Named Lower Saxony’s Athlete of the Year for the Second Time




Basketball champion Dennis Schröder has been crowned Lower Saxony’s Athlete of the Year for the second time. The 28-year-old NBA star, currently playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers, was honored at the Sports Ball of the Lower Saxony State Sports Association in Hanover.

The Highly Coveted Award

“Winning for the second time is an honor,” said Schröder via video message, expressing his gratitude to everyone who voted for him. The awards were a combination of audience voting and jury votes, presented by Sports Minister Daniela Behrens, former national soccer goalkeeper Almuth Schult, and soccer coach Dieter Hecking.

An Evening of Celebration and Recognition

The Sports Ball is an annual event that celebrates the extraordinary achievements of Lower Saxony’s athletes. This year’s event was attended by almost 3,000 people from the worlds of sport, politics, business, and society. Alongside Schröder, track and field athlete Lea Meyer and the Germany foursome rowers Pia Greiten and Frauke Hundeling were also honored.

The Votes Are In

Schröder won the athlete of the year title with 28.79% of the votes, leaving behind competitors like athletes Amanal Petros and Sven Schwarz. The distribution of votes can be seen below:
