Joventut de Badalona had won the last two editions of the tournament, but had been placed in a very demanding group. On the first day, a great Obradoiro Peleteiro dethroned the champion (68-56) with Diego Maseda (18 points) and Alonso Grela (15) as the best scorers. In that same group, Pedro Robles’ Movistar Estudiantes (21 points) defeated Casademont Zaragoza.
Those who did not have too much trouble were three other favorites: Valencia Basket, Real Madrid and Barça.
