When he presided over the opening ceremony of the 2024 2nd Datuk Zaharie Shahli Cup Segamat Men’s and Women’s Basketball League hosted by the Segamat Basketball Association last night, he said that he was pleased that the number of men’s and women’s teams has increased significantly this year, with the men’s team increasing to 10 teams, while the women’s team has 4 teams.
He, who is also the Urogash district state assemblyman, said that Urogash and Lifeng Township from the state constituency each sent a team to participate in the competition to strengthen the lineup of the Xi County Basketball League.
He said that a feature of this year’s tournament is the appearance of a non-Chinese female team from Kolej Tunku Kurshiah, a boarding school in Seremban, Negeri Negeri. In addition, Universiti Teknologi MARA Segamat also sent a team to participate.
He hopes that Xi County Basketball can hold a larger league next year and invite more male and female teams from outside the county to participate.
He announced an allocation of RM10,000 to the Xi County Basketball Association to help promote player training and referee training, and hoped that this would become an activator to revive the glory of Xi County basketball.

Zhuang Meifen, president of the Xi County Basketball Association, said that the above-mentioned league had a total of 7 men’s teams and 4 women’s teams last year, and the men’s team has increased to 10 teams this year. In addition, the tournament invited teams from College Negeri Seremban Tengku Kushar and Universiti Teknologi MARA Segamat to participate in the tournament, which shows that basketball is not a sport exclusive to Chinese people, but compatriots from Malays can also participate in it.
